UPDATE: HOUSE ETHICS COMMITTEE EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR FILING FINANCIAL DISCLOSURES DUE TO CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

Federal law requires that Members of the House and certain House employees file yearly financial disclosure reports, due on May 15th of each year. Additionally, they are also required to file periodic transaction reports on an ongoing basis, depending on their financial activity throughout the year.

Due to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, the House Ethics Committee has automatically granted a 90-day extension to all Members of the House and House employees who are required to file financial disclosures. The deadline for annual filers is now August 13th, although financial disclosures may be submitted prior to August 13th, if practicable.

However, this extension does not apply to Members of the House or House employees who are required to file new employee or termination reports, nor does it apply to candidates for the House of Representatives. Finally, there are no extensions for periodic transaction reports.

Federal law gives the Committee the ability to waive late filing fees in extraordinary circumstances. Therefore, all late filing fees that are reasonably related to the coronavirus pandemic will be waived by the Committee. Anyone filing after the August 13th should request a late fee waiver, which can be found here.

While the Committee’s physical offices are currently closed, staff is still able to answer inquiries via telephone at (202) 225-7103 and via email at [email protected].

The Committees full pink sheet on the pandemic-related financial disclosure extension can be found here.
