Today, Governor Lee signed House Bill 888 into law to ban foreign nationals from contributing to state and local ballot issue campaigns.

In response to the law, Americans for Public Trust Executive Director issued the following statement:

“We applaud Governor Lee and the Tennessee legislature for recognizing the threat of foreign interference in their state and local ballot issues and swiftly taking action to pass House Bill 888. This law prevents foreign billionaires, like Hansjörg Wyss, from funneling money through groups like the Sixteen Thirty Fund to influence the state’s politics. The Volunteer State is now the 6th state this year this pass legislation that safeguards their ballot initiatives from foreign influence.”
