Louisiana Signs Foreign Funding Ban into Law

Today, Governor Landry signed House Bill 693 into law to ban foreign nationals from contributing to state ballot issue campaigns.

In response to the law, Americans for Public Trust Executive Director Caitlin Sutherland issued the following statement:

We applaud Governor Jeff Landry for signing HB 693 into law, making Louisiana the ninth state in the last year to prohibit foreign nationals from contributing to ballot measure campaigns. Because of legislative leaders, especially Secretary of State Nancy Landry, Louisiana has taken an important step to protect their state from foreign interference and ensure only U.S. citizens are influencing policy.”
