APT Requests Governor Whitmer’s Records On Contract Politicizing Public Health Response

Today, Americans for Public Trust demanded details about Governor Whitmer’s contract with a Democratic data firm by submitting Michigan Freedom of Information Act requests.

Today, Americans for Public Trust demanded details about Governor Whitmer’s contract with a Democratic data firm by submitting Michigan Freedom of Information Act requests.

It was recently announced that Governor Whitmer’s administration has contracted with EveryAction Van to collect health data on Michiganders in response to the coronavirus pandemic. But what is alarming is that EveryAction Van does not provide public health information, but rather politically valuable data, and is a project of the leading technology providers to Democratic and progressive campaigns and organizations, NGP VAN. As the state responds to ensure the health of all Michiganders, political ideologies and loyalties should be irrelevant in determining access to healthcare.

APT requested any and all records regarding this contract, and information regarding whether the health data collected will be shared and used for political purposes. It also raises serious concerns about health privacy and HIPAA.

APT is prepared to sue under state law if needed to obtain these records as soon as possible in light of the need for accurate information during this public health crisis.
