Today, the state of Ohio won its lawsuit defending the state’s ban on foreign donations to ballot measure campaigns. APT released the following statement celebrating the successful defense of Ohio’s foreign funding ban.

“This is an important victory for common sense and is the culmination of years of effort to safeguard Ohio voters from foreign money influencing statewide ballot issue campaigns,” said APT Direct Caitlin Sutherland. “We applaud Governor DeWine, Attorney General Yost, and all the Ohio lawmakers who fought alongside us to protect their state from foreign influence. Since the law went into effect, eight additional states have passed similar legislation, with many other states, and even Congress, introducing bills to close this loophole. Closing this loophole at all levels is critical to ensure American politics is truly free of foreign influence.”
