Today, Governor Mike Kehoe signed SB 152 into law, which bans foreign nationals from contributing to state ballot issue campaigns. Missouri becomes the eighth state this year and the ninth state across the country to enact legislation to close this foreign influence loophole.
“Over years, nearly $13 million in foreign-backed money has flooded the Show-Me State to usher in progressive policies and extreme changes to the state’s constitution,” said APT Executive Director Caitlin Sutherland. “With Senate Bill 152 signed into law, Missouri can now count itself amongst the states that have prohibited foreign money in their ballot issue campaigns. Governor Kehoe, Senator Brown, and the Missouri Legislature should be commended for their swift and strong work to safeguard Missouri from foreign influence and ensure that only U.S. citizens are influencing policy.”
