Americans for Public Trust Calls on Groups Funded by Foreign Billionaire to Return Money

Americans for Public Trust (APT) is calling on all U.S.-based organizations to return funding that they received from British billionaire Christopher Hohn.

Following Hohns announcement cutting off funds, groups should return foreign cash

Alexandria, VA — Americans for Public Trust (APT) is calling on all U.S.-based organizations to return funding that they received from British billionaire Christopher Hohn. This comes after Hohn announced he would be ceasing all funding of U.S.-based organizations following a bombshell APT report that exposed his vast, foreign funding network used for years to pump hundreds of millions of dollars into U.S. policy debates and left-wing advocacy.

“For far too long Christopher Hohn, and other foreign billionaires like Hansjörg Wyss, have been able to exploit loopholes that allow foreign money to fund policy fights that shape American politics to fit their radical agendas. Hohn is only stopping his giving now because we caught him,” said Caitlin Sutherland, Executive Director of Americans for Public Trust. “Ceasing his contributions after being exposed only further highlights concerning loopholes that can be exploited by anyone looking to influence U.S. policy and politics with foreign cash. If Hohn’s actions tacitly admit that his influence over U.S. organizations is wrong, then all the groups that have received funding from him should do the right thing and immediately return the money. Furthermore, Congress must immediately take action to end the political foreign funding of U.S. nonprofits. Americans for Public Trust will continue to expose this dangerous problem and work towards a solution that closes these foreign funding loopholes once and for all.”
